Website launched for early onset menopause
5 Dec 2006
A new website has just been launched targeting information and advice at women who suffer from early onset of menopause.
The site, www.earlymenopause.org, has been set up by NAPS volunteer, Ruth Burnham, in conjunction with NAPS Chairman, Nick Panay, Consultant Gynaecologist at the Queen Charlotte’s Hospital, Westminster. “There is relatively little information available to sufferers, hence the creation of my website,” Ruth comments.
Premature menopause or Premature Ovarian Failure, (POF), is defined as the onset of menopause before the age of 45. It affects approximately 1 in every 100 women before the age of 40, one in 1,000 women under 30 and 1 in 10,000 women under 20.
Another major source of information on health issues surrounding the menopause is Menopause Matters - a clinician run website by Dr. Heather Currie. Women's Health Concern website also features general menopause information.
