NAPS launches training day for Home-Start
14 Oct 2006
The final plans are now in place for the NAPS training day for Home-Start volunteers and their clients and families in Kent.
The event, called Breaking the Cycle, takes place on October 31 at The Angel Centre, Tonbridge, Kent, and will bring together NAPS, Home-Start and other relevant organisations such as local Primary Care Trusts and family planning organisations in South West Kent. To enable this to forge ahead, NAPS was awarded a grant of £1500 from the Nationwide Foundation for its work in the community.
"This will empower volunteers to provide more effective support to women experiencing problems with their menstrual health and support women with more effective tools to help them and their families in making decisions about their health care," comments Chris Ryan, NAPS Chief Executive. All participants - volunteers and clients - will be asked to complete a menstrual chart before they attend the events, so that they can related information during the day to their own health. It is intended that the pilot scheme will spread from South West Kent and become a national scheme.
Commenting on the training day, Leonie Akehurst, coodinator for Home-Start South West said: “We are looking forward to the training day. We are hoping that this will give our visited families and volunteers the opportunity to gain more information and support to enable them to feel more in control of their own health especially around issues relevant to their menstrual health.”
