NAPS makes bid to set up first national centre for women’s health

9 Aug 2007

NAPS is joining with other women's health organisations and Christ Church University, Canterbury to establish the first National Women’s Health Centre.

The aim of the centre will be to provide all women with free access to the highest quality health guidance and advice on personal health management. It will include an outreach scheme to provide tailored health education information programmes, active choice options and practical guidance for women in harder to reach groups. The centre will also work with employers and trade unions to improve health awareness and active health management amongst women in the work place.

To achieve this goal, NAPS will team up with Christ Church University in Canterbury, Kent, Women’s Health Concern, Menopause Matters and other speciality organisations. The first step in the partnership will be to form health4women – the first national centre for women’s health and well-being with a new website health4women.org.uk.

This will be a unique comprehensive national source of reliable accredited information, advice and education to empower women to self-manage confidently their personal health and well-being.

The centre aims to improve the quality of health information available by empowering women with full clinical and research evidence, with access to high level speciality advice, case studies and guides. The Centre will also provide interactive information, education and continuing support with e-bulletins, web casts, text news, magazine and newspaper features.

It will also be of benefit for health professionals, providing patient advice materials, and will provide health education programmes and materials including access to large research databases.
