Menopause the Musical comes to London
25 Jan 2007
Following in the wake of The Vagina Monologues and Grumpy Old Women, a new show aimed at the more ‘mature’ woman is coming to London next month.
Menopause the Musical, written by Jeanie Linders, began life in America six years ago and has now been experienced by 8.7m people (mostly women, unsurprisingly) in nine countries. It opens at The Shaw Theatre, London on March 27th 2007 and will star Su Pollard of former Hi Di Hi! fame.
Its content is aimed at women going through or about to go through the perimenopause, menopause, and those who have survived and come out the other side. Parodies of famous songs such as “I heard it through the Grapevine” are adapted in a musical which pokes fun at the perils of night sweats, memory loss, mood swings, wrinkles and chocolate binges. A UK tour is being planned for 2008.
Novogen UK, suppliers of Redclover supplement aimed at helping menopausal symptoms, are sponsoring the show in London. “We aim to help encourage and engage women in a healthy dialogue about issues of ageing and womens health,” comments Steve Beck UK Manager of Novogen UK. Novogen is committed both to helping improve the health and well-being of all 40-plus women as well as to promoting a positive image of the menopause and the powerful contribution made to society by women of menopausal age. Novogen will be offering all its customers discounted tickets with a saving of £12 by quoting NVG2007 when contacting The Shaw Theatre box office.
Reviews of the show in America
As one critic in America wrote: “Thankyou for offering a play that gives us permission to admit we are OK with where we are in life now,” Karen B. Orlando, Florida.
And another: “It’s impossible not to laugh,” Liz Smith, The New York Post.
