NAPS Chief Executive Officer retires
24 Jan 2008
NAPS Chief Executive Officer, Chris Ryan, has retired after seven years of dedicated work leading the Association to its position as one of the leading menstrual health charities, giving advice and information to women sufferers and their families around the world.
His drive since joining in 2000 has been to raise the profile of PMS, ensuring it was brought to the fore as a major women's health issue, working on government bids and building close links with corporate supporters to make sure that those affected received the appropriate support needed. He has played a major part in transforming the charity, launching a new and exciting website with the introduction of the Forum, which has proved invaluable to thousands of women seeking help, support and vital information to help with their problems. NAPS' Help the Experts service was also introduced, enabling women from all over the world to gain access to specialist help and advice from managing their symptoms to diet and relationship advice.
Under his guidance, the NAPS annual clinical conferences have also grown from strength to strength and the charity has a strong link with the media, enabling PMS and other menstrual related illnesses to maintain a strong profile. The introduction of our monthly e-bulletin, Once a Month, two years ago has also allowed NAPS members and other interested readers to take advantage of the latest advice and information on all aspects of menstrual health from dietary advice to latest research studies.
As an interim measure, NAPS is being managed by a very experienced team, led by Jackie Howe, NAPS Treasurer, who has been involved with the charity for over 20 years and has extensive fund raising experience, including being instrumental in raising £161,000 for NAPS from the first lottery grant in 1997.
NAPS chairman Nick Panay said:"Chris devoted himself fully to NAPS and during his time as CEO developed an intimate understanding of the suffering that women with severe premenstrual syndrome endure. I have no doubt that both the trustees and members of NAPS will sorely miss Chris' professionalism and his friendship - I certainly will."
