A welcome boost for NAPS in the New Year
Excellent PR for NAPS
Media and NAPS work together
Jane Elliott wrote an excellent piece on PMS and relationships for BBC Online, which appeared at the beginning of January and featured for three days. She had interviewed Marie and John Seward and they were very pleased with the way in which their story was represented. Both Nick Panay, Consultant Gynaecologist and Chairman of NAPS and Jackie Howe, Acting CEO, were quoted. Soon after, in the Saturday edition of The Times, in the list of notable quotes of the past week, in the Body and Soul section, one of Jackie’s quotes appeared but information about her was mixed up with that of Marie and in the touch of a keyboard, she had found an answer to the ageing process by a reduction of over 20 years!!‘The Bill’ did a two-parter called ‘Little Girl Lost’ and by the end of the first programme, there was every indication that the next would feature PND/PNI. We contacted the programme controller to advise them of the link between PMS and PND/PNI and asked if there was any possibility of our being included in any advice planned to go out at the end of the programme. They were delighted that we had made contact but were doubtful if anything could be done at that late stage (this was the afternoon of the day of the second programme ). However, their web page designer, was able to add the NAPS contact on ‘The Bill’ website, with a line to say that PMS could be connected to PND/PNI. Any readers of the Bulletin ,who watched the programme and have had experience of PND/PNI, will know that this episode portrayed the condition of the illness both accurately and sympathetically. We complimented those responsible for the production and are delighted that they plan to consult with us on any programmes with a PMS content and that their medical adviser would be pleased to attend any of our future conferences.
‘Take a Break ‘ have issued contact details of NAPS, on the grounds that this had been the course of action recommended, when a GP had been approached for advice on dealing with PMS.
