NAPS publicity with a difference

NAPS member Jacky Sykes works unstintingly to help PMS sufferers

Nutrition Fair in Sheffield a great success for NAPS Member

Congratulations to Jacky Sykes for raising awareness of both PMS and NAPS

As reported in last month's bulletin, NAPS member, Jacky Sykes was organising a stall on PMS as part of her course requirement at Sheffield Hallam University. All her hard work paid off with many visitors to the fair and to her stall. To portray the Jekyll and Hyde nature of PMS, Jacky back combed half of her hair to make it look messy and smudged that side of her face with lipstick while the other half of her face was 'normal'. What a brave lady!

Jacky gave a new meaning to PMS by calling her stall and literature “Perfect Monthly Secrets”.

She was delighted that a dietitian from a Sheffield Hospital, working in pregnancy nutrition, wanted to put the literature that Jacky had produced, on their department's website.

Jacky found it interesting that so many women who visited her stall claimed not to have PMS but after discussion realised that they did, even if mildly. There were quite a few women who were severe sufferers but had never heard of NAPS, so naturally Jacky pointedthem in the right direction.

Everyone loved Jacky’s survival bags and there were six lucky winners of special survival bags containing the bluemoons diary (thanks go again to the support of NAPS), New Tree Tranquility Chocolate, heat packs, face masks, bath products, eye masks and the door hanger which Jacky had devised. The door hangers were a huge success. Instead of just saying “Please do not disturb” they said “Please do not disturb, PMS timeout”. Apparently, they were a wow with women and men.

Jacky also prepared a “Partner's Guide to PMS” which was very well received by the sufferers who visited the stall and she says that a number of men talked to her about their partners and asked how they could help them.

Jacky’s ambition was to raise awareness of PMS so that women can get advice and support and also help themselves through altering their diet and increasing exercise. She is pleased to say that she feels she has achieved that.

Jacky put a huge amount of thought, time and effort into making her contribution to the health day such a success. She thoroughly researched her material, went out and obtained sponsors and with careful attention to detail promoted her message in an appealing and attractive way.

We are grateful to Jacky for raising the profile of both PMS and NAPS. There will be many women who will benefit directly from this particular event.

You also could man a stall at a local health fair. Jacky would be only too willing to be consulted (contact NAPS for details ) on how to go about it and NAPS HQ would also provide information and advice.
