NAPS to assist in recruitment
Bayer Health Care is sponsoring a study of Yaz (a multi-centre, double-blind, active control study) to investigate its effects (in a 24/4 regimen) compared to Mercilon (in a 21/7 regimen) on hormone associated withdrawal symptoms after 4 cycles of treatment.
The trial will try to recruit healthy women aged 18-35 on a low dose oral contraceptive in a 21-day regimen suffering from at least 2 hormone associated withdrawal symptoms such as headache, pelvic pain or bloating during their pill-free interval. For smokers the upper age will be 30. Each subject will be involved in the study for a 6 month period with about 4 study visits. The effects of both pills will be monitored by symptom charts and questionnaires.
NAPS will publish the recruitment appeal once details are finalised. We are as usual delighted to be able to assist in research which has the potential to improve the treatment of PMS sufferers.
