15 Nov 2006
Are you experiencing PMS (premenstrual syndrome) and interested in taking part in a London - based study conducted by NAPS Chairman Mr Nick Panay
Mr Nick Panay, Chair of the National Association for Premenstrual Syndrome (NAPS) and Consultant Gynaecologist at Queen Charlotte’s Hospital, London is leading a study into the effectiveness of red clover isoflavones on pre-menstrual syndrome (PMS) and is looking for women who are currently experiencing PMS to take part.
The information that Nick Panay and his researchers get from this study may help them to treat future patients with PMS better.
We are delighted to give you some more details about the study so that you are better able to choose whether you would like and / or are able to take part in the research. We have given you below, a quick overview of some of the main points that you need to know:
Broadly who is eligible to take part in the study?
You can be considered for involvement in the research study if you are:
- experiencing PMS symptoms and
- between 20 - 45 years
What are the possible benefits of taking part?
You would discover if you do actually suffer from PMS. If you do, you may find that red clover isoflavones help you.
We do not know if the red clover isoflavone supplement reduces the symptoms of PMS. There is already some evidence of benefit for menopause symptoms.
We hope that the treatment you receive in this study may help you but this cannot be guaranteed. The information we get from this study may help us to treat future patients with PMS and menopause better.
What will happen if I do take part?
If you are eligible and agree to take part in this study, you will be asked to attend the Menopause & PMS clinic at Queen Charlotte’s Hospital, Hammersmith, London three times over a period of 6 months (6 menstrual cycles).
We are pleased to offer you up to £50 towards travel expenses to the Study centre at Queen Charlotte’s Hospital should you be enrolled in the Study.
Who is organising and funding the research?
The study is being run at Queen Charlotte’s Hospital, Hammersmith, London by Consultant Gynaecologist Mr Nick Panay with the help of Dr Etienne Horner, Gynaecology Fellow and Sister Alison Cahill, Research Nurse. The study is supported by Novogen Ltd. makers of Novogen Redclover isoflavones.
